'Error 503 - Service Unavailable' when accessing Shared Services Page
I looked up the application pool is II7 to find the main application pool stopped. Under advanced settings its set to start automatically, but yet it stops. I have even tried setting the Identity Credintial agains, but no luck

How are you setting the identity? It needs to be set directly in SharePoint. If you are setting it directly in IIS, then it will be reset with what is configured in SharePoint. stsadm -o updateaccountpassword -userlogin <var>DomainName</var> \<var>UserName</var> -password <var>NewPassword</var> -noadmin Here is a full reference for updating the accounts. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934838/en-us SharePoint MVP | Developer | Administrator | Speaker-- Twitter -- Blog - http://nextconnect.blogspot.com

Thanks Mike, Ran a batch file successfully to update the credentials as per the above microsoft reference. But it did not solve the problem. I still continue to get the same error when accessing the SharedServices Page

Will deleting and recreating the SSP help?
June 9th, 2010 7:52am

Hi, Is “the main application pool” your ssp application pool? The SSP application pool will start by default and I don’t know why your SSP application pool stopped. Whatever, try to start it manually and try again. If the issue is still there, please check your event viewer to see if there are some errors regarding database login. If yes, please try to change the ssp account into one of your farm administrators using following stsadm operation and try again. Stsadm –o edit ssp … http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262727(office.12).aspx Hope it is helpful!Seven

I have completely uninstalled the Sharepoint Installation. I started with a fresh setup. All the Application Pools are running perfectly. I have just created the SharedServices Page. But when I try to access the SharedServices Page, I get the same error Error 503 : The Service is Unavailable I have disabled IPv6 and restarted all services and reset IIS I looked up the Event Viewer and found the following error Reason: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer Technical Support Details: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer at Microsoft.Office.Server.Utilities.WindowsSecurity.GetUserTokenFromCredentials(String userDomainName, String password, LogonType logonType) at Microsoft.Office.Server.Utilities.WindowsSecurity.GetUserTokenFromCredentials(String userDomainName, String password) at Microsoft.Office.Server.Administration.JobHandler.Execute(Object state, Boolean timedOut) Event Xml: <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="Office SharePoint Server" /> <EventID Qualifiers="0">6641</EventID> <Level>2</Level> <Task>1328</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2010-06-13T12:40:00.000Z" /> <EventRecordID>8866</EventRecordID> <Channel>Application</Channel> <Computer>GDPORTAL.goltensdxb.ae</Computer> <Security /> </System> <EventData> <Data>Distribution List Import Job</Data> <Data>Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer</Data> <Data>System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer at Microsoft.Office.Server.Utilities.WindowsSecurity.GetUserTokenFromCredentials(String userDomainName, String password, LogonType logonType) at Microsoft.Office.Server.Utilities.WindowsSecurity.GetUserTokenFromCredentials(String userDomainName, String password) at Microsoft.Office.Server.Administration.JobHandler.Execute(Object state, Boolean timedOut)</Data> </EventData> </Event>

Is your SSP account using a specific account, something different to any other existing web application is currently using? Seems like your service account doesn't have rights to the server - managed through AD? For a test you could try using a working IIS Web Application identity.Regards, Aaron www.aaron-rendell.co.uk

I am not using any other web application currently. Below are the List of Application Pools and the The Accounts OfficeServer Application Pool - Started - Network Service SharedServices1 - Started - Specific Domain Account (eg: portal.admin) SharePoint 80 - Started - Specific Domain Account (eg: portal.pool) SharePoint Central Administration - Started - Specific Domain Account (eg: portal.sqlSvc) Currently for all these Domain Accounts I have given Administrator Rights and added them to Backup Operators Group. I am using Windows 2008 Server with MS SQL Server 2008 I noticed that the main web application (SharePoint 80) gets stopped automatically. Error Event 6641 still continues to occur.

Ok, If you manually enter the credentials into the SSP Web Applicaiton 'identity' it should prompt with an error 'User not granted rights with log on as service' (or something very similar). Does this happen?Regards, Aaron www.aaron-rendell.co.uk
