"Error Unknown" to see the version history
Hi, I have ths problem: Iget the message "unknown error" when viewing the version history of a document. This does not happen with all documents in the library, only happens in some cases. The library has set up 3 different types of content with multiple fields. Someone has any idea that may be happening and how to fix this? Thank you very much

in your web config file, could you set: <...CallStack="true" (switch it from false to true) <customErrors mode="Off" /> (switch it from On to Off) Try again to get more details about the error... You can also read this post ("Versions.aspx Unknown Error", from Natalya... Serge Luca; blog: http://www.redwood.be

Hi Katerina, I could detect because they broke my documents. The problem was that I have a custom EditForm which uses a ComboBox, when they had not selected a value, the data was stored incorrectly and were corrupt documents. I made my changes and not break more records. But I could not find a way to correct those who are already corrupt. For the moment I'm running to the base quersys sharepoint to see if I can correct it, but by the time I was not successfulBy.

Hey Serge, We are facing similar issues with version history page, i.e. the version history page breaks unexpectedly showing the error as 'Unknown Error'. In our environment we dont have any control over the server and hence can't change the web.config file entries in order to see the stack trace. During our analysis we found that the page starts breaking after we run some workflows on the item. These workflows do nothing apart from updating one or 2 item properties after taking item check out, and in the end chekcs in the document. Althought the workflow runs succesfully without any error the version history page breaks. PS: FYI, We have lot of workflkows running on the concerned library and also we are using custom forms. any help regarding this will be greatly appreciated.

Serge,I wanted to open this up again to see if you had any ideas. We are having the same issue, MOSS 2007 SP1 & Infrastructure SP1 installed using MS SQL 2005. We have added a new content type to this same list and were able to see the version history of the new items added using the new content type. So I do not believe the post provided regarding corrupt Display.aspx forms is the cause of the problem (same list, same forms, new content type). We are using several calculated fields and are making use of a third party custom field from KwizCom. The site content type can be added to a new list and we do not receive any errors viewing version history. Lastly, we have four subsites that all make use of this same base content type that all generate the same error when attempting to view version history. When attempting to view version history for a list that is based on this Site Content type we receive the following stack trace:Input string was not in a correct format. at System.Number.StringToNumber(String str, NumberStyles options, NumberBuffer& number, NumberFormatInfo info, Boolean parseDecimal) at System.Number.ParseDouble(String value, NumberStyles options, NumberFormatInfo numfmt) at System.Double.Parse(String s, NumberStyles style, NumberFormatInfo info) at System.Convert.ToDouble(String value, IFormatProvider provider) at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPFieldCalculated.GetFieldValueAsTextOrHtml(Object value, Boolean asHtml) at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPFieldCalculated.GetFieldValueAsHtml(Object value) at Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.VersionsPage.ItemVersion.GetFieldValueAsHtml(SPField field) at Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.VersionsPage.ItemVersion.GetTruncatedFieldValueAsHtml(SPField field) at ASP._layouts_versions_aspx.__Render__control14(HtmlTextWriter __w, Control parameterContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderChildrenInternal(HtmlTextWriter writer, ICollection children) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderChildren(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.Control.Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderControlInternal(HtmlTextWriter writer, ControlAdapter adapter) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderControl(HtmlTextWriter writer, ControlAdapter adapter) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderControl(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderChildrenInternal(HtmlTextWriter writer, ICollection children) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderChildren(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlForm.RenderChildren(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlContainerControl.Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlForm.Render(HtmlTextWriter output) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderControlInternal(HtmlTextWriter writer, ControlAdapter adapter) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderControl(HtmlTextWriter writer, ControlAdapter adapter) at System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlForm.RenderControl(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderChildrenInternal(HtmlTextWriter writer, ICollection children) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderChildren(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlContainerControl.Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderControlInternal(HtmlTextWriter writer, ControlAdapter adapter) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderControl(HtmlTextWriter writer, ControlAdapter adapter) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderControl(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderChildrenInternal(HtmlTextWriter writer, ICollection children) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderChildren(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.Control.Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderControlInternal(HtmlTextWriter writer, ControlAdapter adapter) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderControl(HtmlTextWriter writer, ControlAdapter adapter) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderControl(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderChildrenInternal(HtmlTextWriter writer, ICollection children) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderChildren(HtmlTextWriter writer) at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls.UnsecuredLayoutsPageBase.RenderChildren(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.Page.Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls.UnsecuredLayoutsPageBase.Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderControlInternal(HtmlTextWriter writer, ControlAdapter adapter) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderControl(HtmlTextWriter writer, ControlAdapter adapter) at System.Web.UI.Control.RenderControl(HtmlTextWriter writer) at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services. Mike Did you get anywhere with this?We have the same problem but only when looking at some items version history, not all on a single list based on the bug list template. You didn't mention which Kwizcom product you use- we use Cascading Lookup Plus on this list though I can't discern any difference with the entries in this attribute between items where we can and can't view the version history. We are on SP2.girishm It may be relevant that we have a onchange SPD workflow operating on this list but it simply sends an alert email and doesn't update anything.Roy

Did you ever find a solution to fixing or viewing your version history? I believe that it corrupted the version history that had a Issue Status of 'Resolved'. I no longer wanted to use this status and deleted it after moving any records that had this status to another. When I went back into version history on the records that had the above status, it was corrupt. Any other record with version history that didn't have the status was not corrupt. I even put the status back in and it's still broken.Maria
